Our History

The Church began 2000 years ago and Southgate Church was planted in South Langley in 1996 under the care of our founding Pastors Dave and Tomana McTaggart. 26 years after it was planted Pastors Dave and Tomana transitioned into “grand parents” of Southgate when Kris took over as the new Lead Pastor.

WHY JESUS

At Southgate, we follow Jesus because He is the ultimate example of how to live a life of love, compassion, and truth. Jesus showed us how to care for others, stand up for what’s right, and love God wholeheartedly (John 13:34-35). He sacrificed Himself so we could have a relationship with God, and through His resurrection, He offers us new life and hope (John 14:6). We strive to live like Jesus because His life teaches us how to love and serve others selflessly (Philippians 2:5-8). We also recognize none of us are perfect so we extend grace to one another as we pursue the way of Jesus. Our goal is to reflect His character in all we do, spreading His light and glorifying God (Matthew 5:16)!

Why the bible

At Southgate, we believe the Bible is true and the greatest document ever produced because it’s God’s Word to us—filled with wisdom, guidance, and the truth about who God is and His love for us (2 Timothy 3:16-17). It’s more than just a book; it’s alive and relevant, speaking to every aspect of our lives (Hebrews 4:12). Through the Bible, we discover God’s promises, experience His presence, and learn how to live in a way that honors Him (Psalm 119:105). We’re passionate about diving into the Scriptures together because we know it’s the foundation of our faith and the ultimate source of truth and hope (Romans 15:4)!
