Southgate Training: Partnering with God through the Holy Spirit

It was clear to everyone that Jesus had authority unlike anyone else who claimed to speak and act for God. Indeed, God seemed to back everything he did and said—much to the disdain of the religious “insiders” who opposed him and much to the delight of those who committed to follow him. How was this so? Jesus claimed that it was because of his partnership with God—which later his disciples would understand as being through the Holy Spirit—and not because he had mastered some kind of religious system.

Of course Jesus always knew that he was modelling a way to live for all those who would follow him, including us today. How do we say “yes” to this invitation?

Over four evenings between now and Pentecost Sunday in May, we are going to be exploring how we, in very practical ways, can learn to partner with God’s Spirit the way Jesus did.

February 4: Embracing the gifts that make it all possible
February 11: Learning to pray like Jesus prayed
April 14: Being empowered by the Holy Spirit
April 21: Battling darkness through Spirit empowered prayer

Let’s come prepared to learn, but even more importantly, to practice doing the things we are talking about so that we more fully experience the life that Jesus has made possible for us.
