Meet The Wells Family

We are the Wells family. Graeme, Christine, Landon (four) and Brooke (two).  I (Christine) was attending Southgate and involved in the young adults ministry when I met Graeme and Graeme was attending another church at the time. I was helping organize a city-wide young adults gala when both of our young adults leaders assigned us to the same job, as they thought we’d make a good couple!  Well, it worked! Six months later we were engaged, and six months after that we were married! We have now been married for almost 9 years and have never looked back.

God has been so good to us and we have been so blessed throughout our time together.  We have gone through many highs and lows, but one significant one for us as a couple and as new parents was when Landon was 17 months old.  We weren’t sure if he was ever going to be able to walk as he had issues with this legs and couldn’t stand on his own.  We had a long wait list (months) to get into BC children’s hospital, but God brought someone into our life that was able to get us in much sooner.  Landon had to undergo treatment on his ankles that required casting on both legs for a total of 6 weeks.  The doctor told us this would still prolong the time it would take him to walk, but Praise God, he started walking within ONE week of his casts being on.  Still to this day, every time I watch the video of him walking unassisted right out of the doors of BC Children’s hospital 6 weeks later, it makes me cry with tears of joy.  That was a very trying time in our faith, where we had learned the power of prayer and miracles. Through all of those times, God remained faithful, carried us through, and brought us closer as a couple and as a family.

When Graeme and I got married, we attended his home church for 7 years until we moved out to Langley almost two years ago.  We came back to Southgate and it was like a homecoming for me.  Our family felt welcomed and loved immediately.  In our two years, we have strived to be authentically engaged and really get to know our family at Southgate.

I knew Southgate was home for us when we were in need of prayer and we had friends from our lifegroup take time out of their day just to come to our house and lay hands on us and pray. We really felt like we found a place where we belong! Never have we been in such a close knit community of friends and leaders that treat us like family.

We feel that since we came to Southgate and got involved in the different ministries, kidmin and lifegroups specifically, we have become much healthier because of it. We used to be that family that just sat in the back and went home on Sundays. The ministries at Southgate have made us want to get out of our comfort zones, be more authentic, and be a part of the heart of Southgate Church.
