Identity

Who am I? Really? Who am I in Christ? What does that mean? Where do I fit? What is my purpose? What does God want me to do? Everyone, without exception, will ask themselves these questions at some stage of their life. These are all valid questions that take a lifetime with Jesus to discover. They are what make this journey with God so exciting; so unpredictable and yet so fulfilling. Discovering your identity, your true self, brings a quiet, secure confidence to our lives.

Daily we are confronted with a culture that is trying to shape us and define us. We live in a culture that encourages us to look within ourselves to discover who we are. “You can be whoever you want to be.” “Only you determine who you are.” No one can tell you who you are!” Our culture incessantly projects images to persuade and entice us into being something or someone that we are not. My encouragement to you is to look to God and the truth of His word to discover who you truly are. Let God define you. Let God determine your identity.

There are several key truths that will help you in this journey. “Even before He made the world, God loved us and chose us in Christ to be holy and without fault in His eyes. God decided in advance to adopt us into his own family by bringing us to himself through Jesus Christ. This is what he wanted to do, and it gave him great pleasure.” (Eph. 1:4-6)

God loves you and chose you since before creation. The world doesn’t love you, God loves you! Psalm 139 affirms the feelings and thoughts that God has for us. (Ps 139:17) How precious are your thoughts about me, O God. They cannot be numbered!” How awesome is that – to know that God thinks about you all the time.

God chose you. All three of our kids are married Their spouses never let us forget the fact that they are the “chosen ones.” Our kids, with God’s help, chose them to be their life partners. God chose you to be a part of His family. He chose you because He wanted you.

God has not only chosen you but He has adopted you. It is official. You are a child of God. You are now a beneficiary of all that God has through His son Jesus. You have full privileges. You have unlimited access to your dad – Abba Father. You have an incredible kingdom inheritance.

To top it all off this gives Him great pleasure. This is exactly what He wanted to do. You are not a mistake. He has a great purpose and destiny for you. God is over-the-moon pleased with you.
