Advent celebrates the miraculous, extraordinary, supernatural, impossible, inexplicable, prophetically inspired, angelically announced virgin birth of Jesus. Advent also reminds us that Jesus said He was coming again, “coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory.” (Matt 24:30) Advent is a fantastic season to celebrate Jesus.

As I was reading the Gospel of John, last summer, I was captivated by the number of times the disciple uses the phrase “miraculous signs” – assuming that John wrote the New Living Translation. Jesus performed many diverse miraculous signs.

“The disciples saw Jesus do many other miraculous signs in addition to the ones recorded in this book. 31 But these are written so that you may continue to believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing in him you will have life by the power of his name.” (John 20:30-31)

Miraculous signs are pictures that show us who Jesus is; His power, authority and His compassion. Miraculous signs inspired people to believe. Miraculous signs revealed the glory of God. Miraculous signs met the needs of people. The Latin, miraculum, means “object of wonder”. An extraordinary event that is inexplicable by natural and scientific laws. As we focus on the miracle of Jesus birth let us also remember the miracles that occur every day.

Every day we live experiencing the wonder of God working through creation and His people. The miracle of a brilliant sunset; the miracle of the love between two people; the miracle of a newborn baby, the miracle of the spectacular creation that surrounds us…. God is a God of wonders.

As we enter into the Advent Season I want to encourage you to see the miracles of God in your everyday life so that your faith in Him would be inspired and grow stronger.

I believe in miracles, but more importantly, I believe in Jesus!
